Captain Andrew Jelinek
Household Cavalry Regiment
In early 2010, while serving as a Captain in the Household Cavalry in Afghanistan, Andrew suffered severe spinal injuries after being thrown from his armoured vehicle. Though he beat the odds to survive and then to walk again, Andrew has been left with injuries that though not obvious to the naked eye, have had a wide ranging impact on his life. Coming to terms with the loss of his military career and identity has been another part of that struggle.
Andrew’s love for the countryside is is one he shares with his wife Ellie. He now lives in Sussex and is studying for an MA in Military History at Brunel while Ellie works for a local animal sanctuary, Raystede. Andrew is also active in the local community, and volunteers with the police in his spare time.
